Energy Efficient TVs

On average, plasma TVs use more than twice the power of LCD screens and 2.5 times as much as conventional widescreens. Part of that reason is their larger size (plasma TVs tend to be at least 42 inches), but even similar-sized LCD screens use less power than 42-inch plasma sets.

On average, new technology TVs use more power than CRTs but developments in power-saving and light-sensor technology is beginning to close the gap. IDTVs can receive digital signals without the need for a set-top box; they do the same job as a TV plus a set-top box, but with one power supply rather than two.
